So, now, the Globe and Mail reports that “Members of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s family were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for speeches at WE Charity events before the government awarded the organization a now-cancelled contract to run a $900-million program.” But, despite that, the Globe and Mail also reports that the prime minister did not recuse himself from the cabinet discussion regarding the decision ~ almost certainly 100% his own, selfish, personal decision, just rubber-stamped by an incompetent, bought-and-paid-for ministry ~ to award the nearly one billion dollar contract to his family’s paymasters, the Kielburger brothers.
“WE Charity said,” according to the Globe report, “that the Prime Minister’s wife, mother and brother were each paid to participate in its events. Most of the payments came from the organization’s for-profit affiliate, ME to WE … I call the Kielburgers the family paymasters because the Globe and Mail says that “Between 2016 and 2020, Margaret Trudeau was paid about $250,000 to speak at about 28 events … [and] … That sum was minus the 20 per cent commission the speakers’ agency takes, meaning a total of $312,000 was paid for Margaret Trudeau’s events.” That means that Margaret Trudeau earned, net, after taxes, over $60,000 per year for a few hours of ‘work’ each year ~ 28 events over four years equals about seven events a year, one every seven weeks or so ~ each requiring a few hours of travel, a day or two in luxury hotels and a few hours for makeup and rehearsal; does that sound about right? And one such “work” event every seven weeks or so earned her $60,000 a year. As the old song says, “It’s nice work if you can get it.”
Alexandre Trudeau, the prime minister’s brother was also paid $32,000 to speak at a WE event in 2017/18. The median after-tax income for an individual Canadian was $30,700 in 2018 according to Statistics Canada. That means the Kielburgers paid ‘Sasha’ Trudeau more than many single working-class Canadians earn in a whole year … for a few hours work, reading a script, at one event.
I’m going to forgive the prime minister for forgetting that the Kielburgers also paid his wife to speak in 2012 ~ that was before he became Liberal leader. The Globe and Mail tells us that “The year [Justin Trudeau] became [Liberal Party] leader in 2013, he was criticized after revealing he had earned more than $1.3-million in public speaking fees since 2006. Of that amount, he said, $277,000 came from 17 groups after he was first elected as an MP in 2008.” What was a few thousand amongst millions in speaking fees? Justin Trudeau’s only real job, ever (forget about being a part-time, substitute teacher and wearing blackface) was trading on his father’s name.
But I have to ask, and I have to ask my friends in the Liberal Party of Canada: is there no end to the sleaze and corruption and unethical conduct of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau? He clearly has no moral compass at all, he cannot understand basic political, professional ethics, all he knows is that he is Justin Trudeau and he feels entitled to do whatever he chooses. That’s not acceptable for a prime minister of Canada. The Liberal Party, the caucus, led by some veterans like e.g. Mac Garneau Carolyn Bennett and Lawrence MacAulay, must rise up and throw him out. They are good people, honest politicians and good Canadians; it is time to act. Trudeau Must Go!
