Doing the wrong thing, the wrong way … again

Global News reports that US President Donald Trump is saying that “he would intervene in the Justice Department’s case against a Chinese telecommunications executive if it would help secure a trade deal with Beijing … [he said] … “If I think it’s good for the country, if I think it’s good for what will be certainly the largest trade deal ever made – which is a very important thing – what’s good for national security – I would certainly intervene if I thought it was necessary,” Trump said in a wide-ranging interview with Reuters in the Oval Office.” In other words justice will not be allowed to take its course if there might be some sliver of advantage for America in its trade war with China.

That provoked these social media reactions from author and journalist Terry Glavin and from Professor Roland Paris:

warren-g-bennis-warren-g-bennis-leaders-are-people-who-do-the-rightBoth are quite right. Donald Trump is, yet again, planning to do the wrong thing, even when the right thing is staring him straight in the face, and being Donald Trump he will, almost certainly do the wrong thing in the wrong way. In the process he will sell Canada out to the Chinese because he has no concept of honesty, decency or, above all honour. America is our neighbour, our most important trading partner, the guarantor of our security and, we have believed for over 75 years, are best friend.

Maybe it’s time we looked at guaranteeing our own security, making better friends and trading with more partners.

  1. No Kidding we should have been looking after our interests all along and the cheesy politicos from both parties, no all parties are too blame, sad , sad, sad I think it’s time for us to rise up and ask our leaders what we are paying them for. Because they sure as hell have left us in a bad place as far as our defence goes. None of them has seemed to grasp the concept of look after the country, we the people should be holding their toes to the fire, ahh enough of a rant, away staggers Canada bouncing from the wall of sunny ways to the other wall of let’s become the 51st state.
