… I invite you to take just a moment to think about the men and women of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force who are spending Christmas on duty or deployed overseas …

… the painting is by Silvia Pecota, an award wining artist and photographer who was one of this generation of Canada’s ‘war artists,’ putting her in the company of AY Jackson, Arthur Lismer, Alex Colville and Molly Lamb Bobak, it was done after a trip to Afghanistan and is called ‘Xmas Night.”

It used to be a tradition when my wife was alive that the family would gather and we would listen to”The Shepard” by Alan Maitland and listen to the troops from far away on the Ceeb greeting Canadians and loved ones. This was in part to bring home to my daughters not all of us were lucky and at home, some of us had duty to perform. If I forget Happy Hogmanay .
