Reaching out

I was so glad to see this picture on social media …

… and this one, too …

… because it means that Andrew Scheer is reaching out, past the Conservatives’ middle aged and senior citizen, white, male firm base. It reminds us of Stephen Harper and Jason Kenney a few years ago … showing every ethnic community, all of them, from Austrians to Zambians, that Conservatives respected them and shared at least some of their values.

The road to electoral success in 2006, 2008 and 2011 passed through synagogues, mosques, temples and so on as the Conservatives convinced middle class, hard working, and  vey often ethnic Canadians, person by person, that they shared each others’ values.

Of course, especially in 2006, the Liberals helped us … the sponsorship scandal and all that disgusted new Canadians as much as anyone. I think the Liberals may be doing something similar again.

But the Conservatives helped themselves even more …

… and it needs to happen again, and I think (I hope) it is happening again…

… but it needs to happen more often, more MPs and candidates (and trusted party “elder statesmen,” too) need to get out, as Stephen Harper and Jason Kenny did, and connect with ALL Canadians … not just the middle aged and elderly white ones, like me.

The Conservatives dropped the ball in 2015  ….

… and the Liberals are working hard to pick it up.

The Conservative Party dug itself into a hole. Now it needs to:

  • Stop digging!
  • Climb out of the hole;
  • Build a new platform that makes good sense to the suburban working and middle class votes, many of whom are new Canadians; and
  • Go door-to-door, temple, by temple, mosque-by-mosque and community hall and church basement by community hall and church basement to convince voters to return to their more natural home in the CPC.
