Perhaps I am a bit “hung up” on the values issue. I have said before that we have to “live” our values and teach them to all Canadians, newcomers and old stock, alike, not just screen immigrants for them.
Confucius, of course, managed to say it all in just a few words:
It’s really fairly simple and straight forward, isn’t it?
In my experience a good family depends upon “good hearts” with all that term implies about honesty, hard work, commitment, ambition, sacrifice and trust. The composition of the family isn’t really important, what matters is the “spirit” within the family and the “values” that the family instills and reinforces in all its members. If those are “right,” for Canada, then Canada will remain “strong and free.”
