At last!

The Canadian Press is reporting that “An ex-Liberal organizer convicted of fraud-related charges in connection with the federal sponsorship scandal was given a four-year prison term Wednesday …  Jacques Corriveau, who was previously described as the ”central figure” in the scandal, will also have 10 years to pay a fine of $1.4 million … [because] …   A jury found Corriveau guilty of three charges in November: fraud against the government, forgery and laundering proceeds of crime … [and] … Corriveau, 83, was handcuffed and placed in the prisoner’s box after the sentence was read out.

Of course M. Corriveau’s lawyer will appeal the sentence; the conviction is already under appeal and M. Corriveau may die, quietly and comfortably in his bed with his ill-gotten gains ~ funnelled to him by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and his (equally) crooked henchmen ~ safe and hidden away.

But, the important thing is that justice, in the form of a jury, spoke and M. Corriveau, and, by extension, all the others, including Chrétien, are guilty of defrauding you and me, and a judge, dispassionately weighing the evidence agreed with the crown that a jail sentence is appropriate.

There was a time, when I was a young man, when the Liberal Party of Canada stood for louisstlaurentoriginal.850something: for sound, sensible management of out domestic, fiscal, foreign and defence policies and for personal honesty and probity. That all changed after Prime Ministers St Laurent and Pearson, the best Liberals, ever, including Laurier, in my opinion, left office and, instead of good, honest government we, eventually, got this …

… and, now, thanks to the son of the man who pushed the Liberals into the ethical rat hole, we are getting this …
