A friend, a conservative Conservative, posted this on social media:
It isn’t the “inspirational” part that’s important. What matters is a good political lesson embedded in it. The lesson is that we didn’t “lose” in 2015 IF we learned how to win in 2019. We know that:
- We can win elections;
- We know how to govern well;
- We should also recognize how to NOT win elections ~ by alienating voters; and
- We should be able to do the political math and capture a big, fair share of the political spectrum.
We have won elections with good leaders and attractive policies and a good record. We have also lost when we tried to “play” the electorate in ways that they would not go. We need to learn from 2015 so that we can win again in 2019.
